Perception Of Intent

Many of you know what the title of this post refers to. It is the name of a band of a few dudes who got together and created some epic music.

But that’s the simplified story.

Yes, it’s the name of the band. when I was halfway through with my ms, The Stories, a dark take on fairy tale mythos, well, of course I listened to a lot of music. One of the bands that I played non-stop was Times Of Grace with Jesse Leach, first vocalist for Killswitch Engage and Adam Dutkiewicz, shredder and vox, also for Killswitch Engage. Needless to say Times Of Grace is one of my all-time favorite bands. Ever. Of all time.

Through Times Of Grace I found a video of one Joe Dragich a.k.a. Shredder Joe. He was covering a Times Of Grace song. Well, in the info there was a link for his band. Music lover/supporter I am I clicked it. The rest is history. But the future looks so bright.

See the band was, of course, Perception Of Intent. Shredder Joe was the, uh, house shredder. Guitarist for those who don’t get muh drift. I clicked on a song. Loved it. Then another. Loved it. Then, I clicked on a track called The Sky Burns Red. Instantly, I’m not ashamed to admit-I was transfixed and obssessed. A healthy obsession, I might add.

See…there are no coincidences. For me, anyway. A asked Rudy Martinez, lead vox and screams for POI-EPIC by the way-for permission to use this song as my theme song. He said yes. I was like, yo………

I digress. This really isn’t about me or the book. It’s about the fellas from Perception Of Intent. They’ve dedicated themselves, time away from family and jobs to get where they are today and THIS Friday, 11-11-11, their debut album, “A Distant Voice” drops on us all like a ton of…well, METAL.  This is about them and their efforts. The lyrics are uplifting and positive and truly, truly inspiring. They’ve inspired this writer, time and again.

I ask you all who read this: Yo. If you love soul-awakening music, the kind that sends you on a trip to a place only in your imagination, the kind that inspires you to be better-get this. It is loud and there is lots of epic screams. If not, tell someone what’s up. Fans of Times Of Grace, All That Remains, Across The Sun, As I Lay Dying, and August Burns Red will love this album.

Get it. Share it. If their enthusiasm and dedication are any indication of things to come, you’ll be hearing about them. Trust me.

Perception Of Intent is:

Tyler “Skibbtron” Matlock, bass

“Shredder” Joe Dragich, guitarist

Avery Jacobs, guitarist

Ryan Van Denboom, drums

and Rudy Martinez, vocals and screams
